In May 1987, according to the order of the rector of the Navoi State Pedagogical Institute, the Department of Pedagogy was separated from the Department of “Social Sciences” and started to be managed under the name “Pedagogy and Psychology”. From 1992 to 2015, it was called “pedagogy”. In March 2015, the departments of “pedagogy” and “psychology” were merged and started to be managed under the name “general pedagogy and psychology”.
In 1987-2002, associate professor T.G. Gulboyev, candidate of pedagogical sciences, in 2002-2008, candidate of pedagogical sciences Sh.A. Abdullayeva, in 2008-2010, associate professor D.A. Akhatova, in 2010-2011, associate professor S.S. Sayitov, in 2013-2017, associate professor D.A. Akhatova and in 2018-2021 it was headed by PhD candidate D. Murodova. In 2021-2023 it was headed by Ph.D. SH. Boltayeva. In 2023-2024, (DSc), professor D. Narzikulova, Ph.D. Currently, Shukurov Bakhtiyor Suvonovich is the director.There are 32 teachers working in the department. Among them, 1 doctor of science professor (dsc), 2 PhD candidates, 9 PhD candidates (4 associate professors, 5 senior teachers); 9 senior teachers and 10 teachers are working. The scientific potential of the department is 40%.
Almost all professors and teachers of the department are engaged in research work. From the teachers of the department: Ph.D. F. Aminova’s “Doctor of Science” scientific works on the topic “Axiological analysis of socio-aesthetic issues in hadiths”, R. Ashrapov’s “Reading culture in the formation of the social and spiritual image of young people”, D. Safarova’s “Yusuf Khamadoni” social and moral views”, H.Akhatova’s “Mechanisms of improving the effectiveness of teaching in primary education using person-oriented technologies (in the example of education science)”, G.Khushvaktova’s “Pedagogical mechanism of organizing national education in the family based on the competence approach”, Rasulov Jasur Saparovich’s “Improving pedagogical technologies of teaching young students to think logically”, Y. Odilova “Attitude of parents to children as a factor of forms of social phobia”, S.S. Rahimova are conducting scientific research on topics such as “Mechanisms of development of leadership activities of women pedagogues in the conditions of the new renaissance”.

The law about “The State Emblem” was approved by the 10-th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan on July 2, 1992.
The law about “The State Flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was adopted on November 18 in 1991 in the 8th session of the Supreme Council of Uzbekistan.
